ESD containers to ensure a secure transport

Electronic components like silicon wafers or sensitive controls might easily be damaged by static charges occurring during transports. This risk is excluded using WALTHER ESD containers. They are made of conductive plastic to instantly eliminate static charges.

A user from the electronics industry was seeking to combine two advantages: secure and static-safe transport of PC boards and electronic components, as well as space- and cost-saving recycling of ESD containers.
First prerequisite for the transport of electronically sensitive components is a conductive box ensuring that no electrostatic charges occur, as these are a major threat to the transported goods. WALTHER ESD folding boxes have been specifically designed for this application, dissolving the problem of electrostatic charge during transports for our customers in the automotive and electronics sector. Moreover, they may be reduced by 80% of their original size for empty transports. Ex stock, we deliver ESD folding boxes in a standard size of 400 x 300 mm and 600 x 400 mm and in various heights.

Reduce costs, improve handling, and maintain durability and protective function - those were the requirements of a well-known processor manufacturer. Silicon wafers are the basic material for the production of computer processors. Being extremely sensitive, they make high demands on a transport box. So far, silicon wafers had been sent back and forth between the various processing sites throughout Europe, Asia, and the USA in a very complex aluminium transport packaging.
WALTHER Faltsysteme switched the whole system from aluminium to less expensive plastic. A specially designed Hybox with the basic dimensions 1,200 x 1,000 mm was presented as an optimal solution. First of all, the box was extensively tested, for example with accelerations of up to 3 G and with vertical loads of up to 3,000 kg. After a successful test run with air and truck loads, the Hybox was approved as a standard package for wafer transport.
Our client in the semiconductor industry may now profit from acquisition costs decreased by 36%, from significantly lower circulation costs, as well as from high transport safety with no damage to a freight costing up to 70,000 € per container.

PCB transports require ESD packaging. On an area of 400 x 300 mm, maximum quantities were to be moved, the packaging was to be extremely reducible and, of course, 0% of transportation damage provided – definitely no trivial task. Yet, using ESD containers from our FlexFold program, we were able to quickly present a solution to our customer: a foldable transport box measuring 400 x 300 x 220 mm and made of ESD tested PP twin-wall material. It holds 18 PDBs tightly and safely, separated by fitted compartments. A lid flap neatly closes the box.
An empty FlexBox is folded in one piece like a parallelogram, its surrounding lid secures the box against reopening. The empty FlexBox can be stacked easily, making it as easy to return. This principle may be applied to a whole variety of packaged goods, whether items in special sizes are to be transported or special requirements are posed on the plastic materials of the ESD container.
